The central part of Guatemala forms part of the Caribbean Plate. During its passage from the Pacific Ocean to its current position, we have a series of three main ophiolitic belts obduction in Guatemala. All these belts developed later large lateritic deposits, some time with gold, some time with PGM, always containing MgO, Ni and Co and with different geochemical evolutions. During my time in Guatemala, I discovered over 4,000 km2 of new lateritic targets. This makes Guatemala one of the riches Ni-laterites countries in The World. In this presentation we will do a virtual trip to each of these ophiolitic belts and the Ni-laterites deposits they contain.
